About this Episode

Workplace accident rate fell to a record low in 2025, the Association d’assurance accident (AAA) reported, despite an increase in fatal accidents. The AAA recorded fewer overall work-related incidents than the year before, even as the number of people covered by insurance grew. The average cost per claim rose. Construction remained the most accident-prone sector, followed by food production, and public locations and building sites accounted for the largest shares of reported accidents. AAA president Claude Seywert called the results encouraging but warned that the rise in fatal accidents shows prevention efforts remain essential.

The housing market has shown a split: purchase prices eased compared with the previous year while advertised rents climbed noticeably. The drop in prices reflects cooling after an unusually busy quarter the year before and affects both new-build and existing properties, with fewer off-plan sales and overall transactions remaining below pre-crisis levels. The shortage of new construction combined with strong demand helps explain rising rents, which have increased substantially faster than general inflation. The Housing Observatory says the market remains subdued compared with earlier years, with new-build activity particularly weak.

Prime Minister Luc Frieden, Defence Minister Yuriko Backes and Interior Minister Léon Gloden said recent unidentified drone sightings over Luxembourg posed no immediate threat to the public. The government has activated its national drone action plan, requested assistance from Belgium and France, and will expedite procurement of detection equipment originally planned for next year. Officials confirmed drones were visually observed over Findel but their types and origins remain unknown; investigations continue. Ministers warned against speculation and said shooting down drones is inadvisable because falling debris would endanger people on the ground.
