European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has called for brisk progress in rebuilding relations with Hungary after the election of Péter Magyar. The EU is still withholding around 17 billion euros in funds over concerns about rule of law and fundamental rights. Restoring trust and unlocking funds will depend on reforms by the incoming government.

US President Donald Trump said the US will begin a blockade of Iranian ports and destroy Iranian vessels approaching the blockade. Iran has warned it could target ports across the region in response. International efforts to revive the failed talks are continuing amid fears of further escalation.
