About this Episode
Two professors at the University of Luxembourg are advocating for a comprehensive overhaul of the university’s governance as it approaches its 25th anniversary, coinciding with an upcoming audit of its organizational processes. In an open letter, they criticized the institution for being overly hierarchical and lacking democratic processes, emphasizing the need for greater involvement from the university community in decision-making. The professors highlighted issues related to the appointment of deans and the power dynamics within the faculty, asserting that the existing structures hinder open dialogue and contribute to a toxic work environment.
Authorities have closed the port of Mertert following a significant oil spill in the Moselle River that was detected on Sunday evening. A slick, believed to be diesel, extended several kilometers downstream, prompting an emergency response from firefighters from both Luxembourg and Germany. The leak, which spread as far as Oberbillig, was reported around 18:47, leading to the deployment of containment barriers to limit the spread of the oil. The operation continued until midnight, and investigations are underway to determine how the oil entered the river. Water samples are being tested by experts from Luxembourg’s Water Management Authority to assess the environmental impact, and an environmental pollution complaint has been filed against unknown suspects.
