US President Donald Trump warned US forces would strike Iran “hard”, saying Washington’s ceasefire was over after overnight US strikes on Iranian targets and Iranian attacks on US bases and shipping. He threatened further strikes on civilian infrastructure and even seizing Kharg Island. Trump also accused Tehran of violating the framework deal and urged negotiators to return to talks only if Iran complied. US Central Command said earlier strikes hit more than 80 Iranian targets including air defences, radars and IRGC small boats in the Strait of Hormuz. NATO leadership backed the US response as necessary whilst Iran vowed retaliation.
A 16‑year‑old boy was arrested after an attack at the Welfen Gymnasium in Schongau, Bavaria, in which two girls were seriously injured, police said. Officers described a major operation, urged people to avoid the area, set up a contact point for parents at the fire station, and deployed helicopters to treat the wounded. They currently believe the attacker acted alone and that the victims’ lives are not in danger.
Marine Le Pen launched her 2027 presidential campaign after an appeals court reduced her ban from public office, allowing her to run while she appeals her conviction to the Court of Cassation. The court upheld her fraud verdict over a long‑running European Parliament fake‑jobs scheme but stayed her sentence while she lodges the legal challenge, meaning she will not have to wear an electronic ankle tag during the appeal. She vowed to focus the campaign on cost of living, security and jobs while opponents denounced her candidacy as legally and morally compromised.
Norwegian police said 28 men were arrested across seven countries in an international operation targeting buyers of child sexual abuse material who paid for access to dark‑web forums using the cryptocurrency Monero. The arrests, coordinated with partners in Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, the Czech Republic, Poland and Germany led to the seizure of more than 460 items including devices and crypto wallets. It also resulted in three children being safeguarded while investigators said more arrests were possible.
