About this Episode
Marissa Daruwalla is social worker with a vast experience in various fields of social care including addiction, psychiatry & after care, child day care, child protection services and other related fields. Hailing from a multicultural family background, an early contact with social inequality led her to study and become a professional social worker, to help fight causes for the downtrodden in the society around her.
Since 2002, she has specialized in gender violence and its preventions, taking a keen interest in cases around prostitution, sexual exploitation of women & children, trafficking in human beings for sexual purposes, domestic violence etc. Marissa then founded Seed-Sexeducation Decolonized based off of her many years of research, and went on to write a book – “Do men give love for sex & women give sex for love” – on the study of human sexual behaviors from a decolonial, socio-economic and political point of view. Her conclusions are profound, and she shares a peak of these insights with Hembadoon on the Nubian Lounge.
Consistently sharing her findings with the community here in Luxembourg where she has lived since 2006, Marissa is partnering with Drop an Drun for an inspiring book reading at the Orange Evening, a highlight of the Orange Week, a worldwide event that draws attention to the difficulties women face in society and raise awareness about violence against women. The event will take place at the Leudelange Cultural Centre on Saturday November 29 and will feature book readings of personal stories from a renowned author and speaker Hatice Kondu Konu, a lecture by a representative of the Break The Cycle Luxembourg asbl Bagia Ioanna and a presentation by Marissa Daruwalla.
Marissa will share notes and insights on her research analyzing sexual at risk behaviour amongst different populations, especially her work with the National Research Institute in the Netherlands in collaboration with the municipality of Rotterdam. The Orange Evening organized by Drop an Drun is FREE to attend.
