About this Episode
The Education and Science syndicate SEW/OGBL has warned of structural violence in schools after a survey of more than 1 100 teachers found 820 had faced violence in the past year and 314 experienced it one to five times a week; 450 teachers were physically attacked, 233 were injured and 64 sought medical care. The union has demanded better training, standardised reporting, psychological and legal support, anonymous channels and annual statistics, and has criticised the Ministry of Education for inadequate action.
National statistics agency STATEC projections show Luxembourg could reach one million inhabitants by 2070, driven mainly by migration while growth slows after 2050. Life expectancy has been projected to rise to about 90.3 years for women and 86.7 for men by 2070, and the average age is expected to increase by roughly six years to between 46 and 48. Fertility has remained low at about 1.2 children per woman and is forecast to climb only to 1.5 by 2070, leaving demographic balance reliant on migration.
