The national statistics agency STATEC reports rising poverty. New data show about one in seven residents was affected last year. The poverty line is about 2,500 euros per month for a single person. Young people and women are the most exposed. Over one in five under-18s face poverty risk. Without social support, the poverty rate would reach over 1 in 4 residents. The figures come after the government adopted Luxembourg’s first national action plan against poverty in December.
Associations “La Voix des Survivant(e)s” and “Innocence en Danger Luxembourg” back a motion to create an independent national commission on violence against children. The proposal was filed yesterday. The groups urge lawmakers to support it. They say the demand dates back to 2022. It calls for a body to assess the situation nationwide. The associations ask the commission to examine all forms of violence in all settings.
