The national statistics institute STATEC has lowered its inflation forecast for this year from 2.5 to 1.8 percent. It cited easing tensions in the Middle East and measures included in the government’s resilience package. Inflation is expected to rise to 2.1 percent next year.
Under STATEC’s central scenario, the next wage indexation would be triggered during the third quarter of next year. However, the institute warned that geopolitical uncertainty remains high and could still influence future price developments.
Luxembourg recorded 29 road deaths last year, up from 18 the previous year. The rate reached 42 deaths per million residents, close to the EU average of 43. Across the European Union, around 19,500 people died on roads during the year.
The European Transport Safety Council said road deaths must now fall by around ten percent annually for the EU to meet its 2030 target. Luxembourg’s road safety association also called for stricter rules for electric scooters. Current legislation does not require helmets, insurance or registration, while children from the age of ten may use roads and cycle paths.
The CMCM health fund has warned members about a phishing email asking them to pay for the renewal of their membership cards. CMCM said its cards never expire and members are never charged a renewal fee.
Recipients should not click on links, provide personal or banking information, and should carefully verify the sender. The fund said scammers may be exploiting confusion over its new mobile application. The official CMCM app is genuinely being renamed “myCMCM”.
