Russian missile and drone attacks have killed at least 21 people in Kyiv, Kharkiv and Donetsk. Ukraine said Russia launched 28 missiles and more than 100 drones overnight. Air defences intercepted most of the drones but none of the missiles.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said additional Patriot interceptors could have saved lives. Ukraine’s missile interception rate has fallen to 44 percent over the past month, while the number of Russian missile launches has risen sharply compared with last year.
The European Union is releasing €1.4 billion from profits generated by frozen Russian central bank assets to support Ukraine. Most of the money will help repay loans provided through G7 and EU programmes. The remaining €70 million will finance military assistance through the European Peace Facility. The Russian assets remain frozen and have so far generated around €8 billion in profits, according to the European Commission.
Moroccan prosecutors have charged 25 people following last week’s mass movement of migrants into Spain’s Ceuta territory. The allegations include organising unauthorised crossings, operating overcrowded boats, damaging property and attacking security officers.
Flights were disrupted at Leipzig-Halle Airport in Germany after a drone equipped with explosives was found beside a Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft. Police examined the device using a remote-controlled robot before it was reportedly destroyed in a controlled explosion. Several incoming flights were diverted and the airport’s southern runway was temporarily closed. German authorities have not identified who was responsible.
