Russia has summoned Luxembourg’s ambassador in Moscow following the transfer of the remains of Ukrainian nationalist leader Andriy Melnyk from Luxembourg to Kyiv. Moscow criticised the reburial, pointing to Melnyk’s leadership of a faction of the Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists that cooperated with Nazi Germany during the Second World War. Melnyk was later placed under house arrest and imprisoned in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. He died in Germany in 1964 and was buried in Luxembourg before his recent reburial in Ukraine. Supporters regard him as a symbol of Ukraine’s independence movement. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy attended the ceremony in Kyiv.

Meanwhile, Luxembourg dairy company Ekabe may terminate contracts with around 70 local milk producers. According to reports, the company informed farmers that existing agreements may not be renewed. Milk could instead be imported from abroad and processed in Luxembourg. The farmers’ association Fräie Lëtzebuerger Bauer warned of serious consequences for the sector. Its president, Aloyse Marx, said other dairies have limited capacity to absorb the affected production. Ekabe is owned by the French dairy group Lactalis. A crisis meeting is scheduled for Monday.

Video game company Atari is relocating its legal headquarters from France to Luxembourg after shareholders approved the move with more than 95 percent support. Originally founded in the United States, the company later became part of the French publisher Infogrames, which adopted the Atari name. In recent years, Atari has focused on retro gaming and acquired several game studios. The company has not publicly stated why it selected Luxembourg for its new legal base.

Authorities have also issued a yellow heat alert covering the entire country for the day. Residents are being advised to stay hydrated and take precautions against the high temperatures.
