The Luxembourg refugee collective LFR condemns the Interior Ministry’s draft law on asylum procedures.  The bill  implements the European Migration and Asylum Pact, introducing a filtering centre for new arrivals, faster procedures and shorter deadlines for appeals. Luxembourg’s law proposal sets harsher rules than required by the EU. The LFR says the law proposal marks a clear shift in asylum policy, at the expense of fundamental rights.

On Sunday, six Luxembourgish activists will join the Greenpeace ship “Arctic Sunrise” in the next global flotilla going from Spain to Gaza. The mission plans to sail with more than one hundred boats and thousands of participants. Greenpeace will provide technical and operational support. With this action, Greenpeace condemns the humanitarian and environmental crises caused by Israel’s war against Gaza. The organisation calls for a genuine and permanent ceasefire, unrestricted access to aid and an end to the occupation of Palestine.

House price growth in Luxembourg was among the lowest in Europe last year.  The European Statistics Agency Eurostat recorded a 0.1 percent increase in the price to buy property compared to the previous year. Across the European Union, prices increased about 5.5 percent on average. The figures cover property purchases only, not rental costs.
