Family Health Houses bring trained midwives and maternal care to women in remote Afghan villages, offering prenatal care, vaccinations and childbirth support. The programme expanded after 2021 and now includes hundreds of clinics. But restrictions on women’s medical training and movement threaten the future supply of female health workers and the long-term survival of the system.
