About this Episode

Iran has threatened to strike energy infrastructure across the Gulf after its massive South Pars gas field—shared with Qatar—was hit in an apparent escalation involving Israel. Tehran warned that major oil and gas sites in countries including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates could become “legitimate targets,” raising fears of wider regional conflict. The strike has already driven oil prices sharply higher and intensified concerns over global energy supplies, particularly as disruptions continue around the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Israel is facing strong resistance from Hezbollah as its forces push deeper into southern Lebanon, with intense ground battles reported around key areas. Despite heavy air and artillery strikes, Hezbollah fighters have slowed Israeli advances, using guerrilla tactics and anti-tank weapons in strategic border towns. The hard-fought clashes have hindered Israel’s objective to create a buffer zone, as the conflict increasingly shifts from aerial dominance to costly ground combat.

Sony Music Entertainment has removed more than 135,000 AI-generated “deepfake” songs impersonating major artists including Beyoncé, Harry Styles and Bad Bunny, in the wake of the growing impact of generative AI on the music industry. The company warned that such content causes financial harm and can damage artists’ reputations, especially during album releases, as fake tracks exploit audience demand. With AI tools becoming more accessible, the industry is increasingly calling for better detection, labelling and regulation to protect authentic music and ensure fair compensation.
