About this Episode
How can circus help us talk about loneliness?
In its new performance, Lonely People Will Be Sold to the Circus, MASKéNADA combines contemporary circus, music and theatre. The story follows a circus family whose former sense of community has slowly disappeared. A small change then forces them to look at one another differently.
The performance explores loneliness in a society where people are more connected than ever, but often still feel isolated. It also asks whether loneliness can become the beginning of something new.
In our interview, the team talks about the inspiration behind the production, the choice of circus as a storytelling form and how they created a performance based on the very subjective sentiment of loneliness.
