About this Episode
Iran has rejected a ceasefire proposal from the United States aimed at reducing tensions in the region. Iranian officials said Tehran would decide the timing of any resolution to the conflict, not U.S. President Donald Trump.
The U.S. proposal reportedly included sanctions relief in exchange for limits on Iran’s nuclear programme and missile capabilities. Iran responded with its own five-point plan, calling for reparations, an end to attacks on its officials and recognition of its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil shipments.
Meanwhile, attacks have continued across the region. A strike caused a fire at Kuwait International Airport.
In another development, Human Rights Watch says Israel has used white phosphorus in southern Lebanon, including in residential areas. Israel acknowledged using the substance but denied violating international law.
Separately, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution describing the transatlantic slave trade as the gravest crime against humanity. And in the United Kingdom, Sarah Mullally became the first woman to be enthroned as Archbishop of Canterbury, leading the global Anglican community.
