About this Episode
Dele Sosimi profiles a robust and rich resume, starting off his early years playing with The great Abami Eda and Afrobeats Legend, Fela Kuti in the Egypt 80 band for 7 years, to playing with his son Femi Kuti’s Positive Force band for another 6 years; being an integral part of both groups and immensely benefiting from the school of Music that Fela ran in his regular rehearsal shows.
Currently one of the most active musicians on the Afrobeat scene worldwide, Dele’s takes the already complex blend of highly danceable funk grooves, Nigerian traditional music (including hi-life), African percussion, underpinning jazz horns and solos from other instruments, as well as rhythmical singing to a whole other level in his renditions.
Hembadoon caught up with him at this year’s Black History Month Luxembourg where he performed a showcase as part of the year’s celebrations. Dele played keyboards on the following Fela/Egypt 80 hits, among others Parambulator, Power Show, Original Sufferhead, Customs Check Point, MOP 1 (Movement of the People), Give Me Shit I Give You Shit, Authority Stealing, Army Arrangeement, Government Chicken Boy, ITT (International Thief Thief), and Teacher Don’t Teach Me Nonsense.
On this episode, he shares all about the depth of the music that shaped him into the maestro that he is today.
