The British-Luxembourg Society will celebrate its 80th birthday early next year – it was founded 24 April 1947. Tonight on Radio ARA’s Happy Hour, Fiona Urquhart Johnstone, co-president of the BLS, tells us more about this non-profit organisation that strives to deepen, maintain and develop the bonds of friendship between the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Great Britain.
She’ll also be telling us about two of the BLS’s most beloved activities – the wonderful art, literature and history courses they offer, which have just started and which you can still join! – and the upcoming Churchill Lecture, which this year will be given on 29 October by The Rt. Hon. Baroness Catherine Ashton of Upholland LG GCMG, who served as the European Union’s first High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy from 2009 to 2014.
For more details about either and about the BLS as a whole, see their website at https://b-l-s.lu/, and listen to tonight’s programme. I go back in time to 1947 for my playlist, which I think suits the topic and the season’s cozy, early-autumn mood.
