Not to scare you, but to encourage you to get your blood pressure measured, did you know that 1 in 3 adults who have hypertension don’t know it? Scheduling a few quick and easy tests to measure your blood pressure, cholesterol level and blood sugar level could save your life if getting the results inspires you to make some lifestyle changes.
Coinciding with World Heart Day on 29 September, the European Commission is holding the first ever Screening Week for cardiovascular health from 28 Sept to 4 October to encourage us all to ‘know our numbers’. Taking part in this initiative will be the Luxembourg Institute of Health. In this episode of Radio ARA’s Happy Hour, the Institute’s group leader for Cardiovascular Research, Dr Yvan Devaux, joins Wendy to talk about his work, the importance of knowing your numbers, and the research going on right here in Luxembourg!
And as the majority of cardiovascular diseases and other non-communicable diseases can be prevented by avoiding risk factors and adopting healthy habits, we’ll talk about some things you could start doing right now – in addition to getting tested! – to boost your chances of living not only a long life, but a healthier one!
