Family and Refugees Minister Max Hahn said Luxembourg does not plan to increase its roughly 8,000 refugee shelter beds despite continued arrivals. He urged asylum seekers to begin learning the country’s official languages immediately, arguing that language skills are crucial for integration and moving out of reception facilities. Hahn also wants to close shelters in poor condition, although high demand makes this difficult.

Luxembourg’s 2025 PISA results show declines in maths and reading, with science scores also slightly lower. More than a third of 15-year-olds do not reach the OECD’s minimum reading standard, while 37% fall below the minimum level in maths. Authorities plan a national action plan to strengthen reading during the 2026/27 school year.

The Association of Banks and Bankers of Luxembourg announced that CEO Jerry Grbic will step down at the end of October to pursue an entrepreneurial venture. Grbic has led the ABBL since April 2022 and will remain in his position until his departure to ensure continuity. The association has begun searching for a successor, but no replacement has yet been named.
