About this Episode

The government has officially signed a tripartite agreement with employers and unions, aimed at addressing economic challenges through a comprehensive resilience package. This agreement includes a €200 increase in the minimum wage, cuts in fuel duties, subsidies for electricity and heating, and support for heat pumps and energy renovations. The deal reflects concerns over rising energy prices and inflation, which have significantly impacted households and businesses. Notably, it establishes a permanent tripartite monitoring committee to oversee the implementation of these measures and track economic developments.

The Tax Administration is currently facing delays of four to six weeks in processing tax refunds as it implements enhanced security measures and updates payment procedures in accordance with new EU regulations on instant payments. Director Jean-Paul Olinger stated that these changes involve verifying recipients’ identities and updating outdated bank account information, resulting in a backlog due to the high volume of payments. To expedite the process, the administration is asking citizens entitled to refunds to provide their bank account details using the payment slip sent with their tax notice. Although this information can be submitted by post or via myguichet.lu, processing times will remain the same until a more automated digital solution is implemented.

Starting June 19, 2026, many service stations may close earlier due to a new law regulating operating hours for commercial outlets. The legislation will allow shops at gas stations to open from 5 AM to 9 PM on weekdays and until 7 PM on weekends and public holidays. However, the distribution of fuel will not be affected by these new restrictions, with fuel pumps and electric vehicle charging stations remaining accessible 24/7. Customers are advised to check with individual stations for specific operating hours, as they may vary.
