Environmental group Mouvement écologique has filed an objection to the planned Google data centre in Bissen as the public consultation on the environmental impact study closed. The organisation says key environmental and economic information is missing. It warns the project could raise Luxembourg’s carbon emissions by up to seven percent and use electricity equal to about 15 percent of national demand. Economy minister Lex Delles says administrative work continues, but Google has not yet taken a final investment decision. Authorities expect permits in 2026 and possible construction in 2027.
In a separate case, a Luxembourg national has been arrested in Spain over a large LuxTrust phishing scheme. The suspect is now in pre-trial detention in Luxembourg. Prosecutors say he helped organise phishing attacks targeting LuxTrust users and the government portal MyGuichet. Investigators accuse him of coordinating a criminal network and recruiting accomplices. Authorities recorded more than 700 complaints in 2024 and 2025, with reported losses above €10 million. The arrest followed an international search involving the European Network of Fugitive Active Search Teams.
Justice minister Elisabeth Margue has announced she is expecting her first child in August. She will become the first minister in Luxembourg to have a baby while in office. Margue told broadcaster RTL that the situation exposes legal gaps. Government members are mandate holders rather than employees, and current rules do not provide formal maternity protection. Margue plans to pause for several weeks around the birth, delegate signing authority during that time and continue some work remotely. She says clearer rules could help attract more women to senior political roles.
