A video showing Home Affairs Minister Léon Gloden wearing a bulletproof vest during a police patrol in Luxembourg City’s Gare district has caused public outrage. Critics described the footage as tone-deaf and compared it to “war cosplay,” arguing that it trivialised the daily safety concerns of local residents. The ministry said police had recommended the vest as a standard safety measure for anyone joining an operational patrol.
The government plans to submit legislation implementing the EU Platform Work Directive during the fourth quarter of this year. The bill will clarify when platform workers should be classified as employees, improve transparency around algorithmic management and strengthen workers’ social rights. Consultations with trade unions and employers are continuing.
The Home Affairs Ministry has also commissioned an independent administrative audit of the Immigration Department. The review will examine governance and internal controls alongside an ongoing judicial investigation. It follows a police search on 7 July and several staff suspensions between April and December last year. The ministry stressed that confidentiality and the presumption of innocence must be respected.
