Germany plans to replace fixed border checks with mobile patrols near Trier after a ruling by the Administrative Court of Koblenz. Judges said authorities failed to prove a serious security threat under Schengen rules and criticised vague references to migration. Luxembourg had challenged the controls and filed a complaint with the European Commission.

Luxembourg-based photographer Gildo Molinari has returned after being intercepted during a Gaza aid mission. He said Israeli forces stopped the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters near Crete. Activists were transferred to another vessel, which he described as a “prison on water”, and he reported poor conditions and injuries.

Around 140 journalists gathered to mark 100 years of the Luxembourg Association of Professional Journalists. Prime Minister Luc Frieden and Media Minister Elisabeth Margue attended. Speakers warned of growing distrust in the media, legal pressure through SLAPP cases, and challenges linked to artificial intelligence.

A woman died after a crash at the Eschdorf hill race. A racing car left the track and hit safety barriers. The victim, a race marshal, later died in hospital. The event was cancelled.
