UNICEF Luxembourg has published the first study on female genital mutilation in the country. It estimates around 3,300 girls and women are affected or at risk. About 2,200 may have undergone mutilation already, while another 1,100 girls under the age of 19 are at risk.Â
Amnesty International has warned that global human rights conditions are decaying in its 2025 annual report. The NGO says pressure on civil society and international law is increasing. In Luxembourg, representatives urged stronger political action. They called on governments to take clearer positions on human rights violations and ensure accountability. Amnesty Luxembourg did notice growing public awareness and protests in support of human rights.
A group of NGOs in Luxembourg is calling for stricter rules on how companies operate abroad. They want firms to better check that their activities do not harm human rights, the environment or the climate.Â
