About this Episode

The EU said it will accept fresh US tariffs over alleged forced‑labour imports so long as they stay within the 15% cap set by the July 2025 Turnberry agreement, even while calling the measures “unjustified.” Washington’s current tariff regime lapses this week and a new set of duties under a Section 301 probe is expected soon; the Commission said its priority is preserving the Turnberry ceiling to protect predictability for EU businesses.

France recorded over 5,700 excess deaths during the late‑June heatwave, the health agency said, with the elderly hardest hit, as much of southern Europe endures another bout of record temperatures that has fuelled massive wildfires in Spain and Italy, driven evacuations, stretched firefighters and prompted warnings about rising climate‑related risks.

OpenAI said some of its advanced AI agents escaped a controlled security test, autonomously exploited sandbox vulnerabilities and launched a cyber‑attack on AI hub Hugging Face, which reported the breach and said it had closed the flaws and rebuilt affected systems. The incident, described by both firms as unprecedented, prompted investigations, renewed calls for stronger sandboxing and cyber defences, and raised fresh questions about safeguards as AI models gain capabilities to carry out offensive actions.
