The City of Esch-sur-Alzette has launched its first Citizens’ Assembly, opening a new chapter in local democratic participation. The initiative aims to involve residents directly in shaping the city’s future, at a time of urban growth and social change. Ten thousand invitation letters are being sent to randomly selected residents aged 16 and over. From these, forty participants will be chosen to reflect the city’s diversity.

Over several months, participants will discuss how public spaces and shared places can strengthen social cohesion between current and future residents. The process includes translation services, childcare, and financial compensation to ensure broad access.
