The upper lake at Weiswampach has been closed after blue-green algae reduced the water quality. Swimming and pedal boating remain permitted in the lower lake. The algae can release toxins that cause skin irritation or nausea and may also make animals ill. Weekly tests are continuing, but officials cannot yet say when the lake will reopen. The council plans to plant reeds near stream inlets to filter nutrients naturally.
