About this Episode
In Luxembourg, it is said that many families are faced with a reality that is vastly opposed to the symbol of prosperity that the country represents. Behind the image of a wealthy and stable country, single parent families, precarious workers, vulnerable students and sometimes even two-income households struggle everyday to keep a roof over their heads, access healthcare and live with dignity.
On November 11 2025, the court of justice of the European Union confirmed that Luxembourg’s minimum wage does not allow for a decent standard of living, upholding the European directive promoted by former Luxembourgish commissioner Nicolas Schmit. The OGBL and LCGB trade unions have long called for structural reforms while dei Lenk points out that Luxembourg is the EU country with the highest number of the working poor.
In comes Grace Walker, a British-Gabonese serial Entrepreneur, missionary and devoted mother whose life is marked by resilience, compassion and purpose. As a single parent also caring for her younger brother, Grace has worked as a KYC officer and has built several successful businesses across Gabon, the UK and Luxembourg in Real Estate, transport and alimentary sectors.
Her first hand experience of the challenges faced by the working poor led her to start a Public Petition no. 3844 which calls on the authorities to protect families at risk of eviction, guarantee access to medical care for all, support employment and social inclusion as well as help single-parent families live with dignity.
Grace stepped into the Nubian Lounge to share her passions and concerns for this group, the purpose of the campaign and the need for every voice, and hand, to be involved in it. She calls on the general public to help bring 6000 signatures to the public debate at the chamber of deputies before the deadline of December 24, 2025.
Grace is of the opinion that Luxembourg has always managed to rise above with courage and dignity, recalling the Grand Duchess Charlotte’s quiet strength and spirit of solidarity which brought the Grand Duchy out of the darkest hours of history. Exiled yet always close to her people, she carried in her heart the nations that welcomed Luxembourg, along with the hope of a free and united country. It is this spirit that Grace appeals to Luxembourgers to deliver today, the legacy of courage, heart and family, which is a big part of our national identity.
