La radicalité du punk est assez simple : pour la musique, trois accords, pour le texte, la révolte et pour la scène, le pogo et les crachats.
Bien vite, la new wave (on dit aujourd’hui post-punk), tout en maintenant le rejet du rock progressif complexe et pompeux, calque sa posture sur l’idée du constant renouvellement que vit (plus qu’il ne le prône) David Bowie, le dilettante du rock, touche-à-tout éclectique et à la bougeotte électrique, une des rares figures musicales à tendre des câbles entre le Velvet Underground, Brian Eno, le glam intellectuel à la Roxy Music, le krautrock et Iggy Pop – dont il produit The Idiot et Lust For Life, deux albums majeurs, au même titre que ses propres disques Low et Heroes .
