CD Tip of the Week: Buzzcocks – Attitude Adjustment
Few bands can claim to be both punk pioneers and timeless songwriters – the Buzzcocks are one of them. Formed in 1976 in Bolton, UK, the band helped shape British punk by combining raw energy with sharp pop melodies and emotionally charged lyrics. Almost 50 years later, Attitude Adjustment proves that the Buzzcocks are still very much alive – and relevant.
Released four years after Sonics in the Soul, this is the band’s 11th studio album, led by founding member Steve Diggle, who continues the legacy following the passing of Pete Shelley in 2018. Rather than sounding like a nostalgia project, Attitude Adjustment feels urgent, vibrant and forward-looking.
The album kicks off with “Queen of the Scene”, a punchy, high-energy opener that immediately sets the tone: classic Buzzcocks hooks, buzzing guitars and an irresistible sense of momentum. Elsewhere, the band shows unexpected depth and versatility. Tracks like “Games” slow things down slightly, revealing a more melodic, almost melancholic side without losing the punk spirit.
With “Seeing Daylight”, the Buzzcocks strike a perfect balance between classic punk drive and a more open, modern sound. It’s a song full of optimism and propulsion – rough-edged, yet uplifting. That contrast runs through the entire album.
Social awareness has always been part of the Buzzcocks’ DNA, and Attitude Adjustment continues that tradition. “All Gone to War” adds acoustic elements and a reflective tone, proving that punk can still be thoughtful without losing its bite.
What makes this album special is its honesty. There’s no attempt to chase trends or relive former glories. Instead, the Buzzcocks sound like a band that still believes in new songs, new ideas and the power of melody. Tracks like “Break That Ball and Chain” deliver classic, driving rock energy with a fresh edge – old school attitude, zero dust.
Attitude Adjustment is not a museum piece. It’s a reminder that punk is not about age, but about mindset. The Buzzcocks aren’t looking back – they’re still moving forward, loud, sharp and unmistakably themselves.
CD Tip of the Week: Attitude Adjustment – proof that punk doesn’t retire.
